Resolved Question: What's the chance Francisco Rodriguez doesn't end up a Met?

I've heard from a lot of reports that the Mets # 1 option right now is Brian Fuentes. At least on the free agent market that is. It's possible they'll pursue Jenks, Nathan, Putz or Street in a trade. K-Rod wants 5 years. That's his top priority. His agent has made it known he wants 15 million per year, but this is not as important as years. The Angels said they've moved on from him too. Don't the Mets control everything in this? Who else is out there who'd give him 5 years? Teams that need closers include St. Louis, Detroit, Cleveland, Milwaukee, San Diego, Arizona & Tampa Bay. The Rockies will replace Fuentes with either Street or Corpas, Street really wasn't even the closer of the A's & the Angels are likely to hand the role over to Arredondo. The Marlins are probably handing the closer's role over to Lindstrom. Detroit's GM said they're not pursuing K-Rod because they have too many expensive contracts. San Diego, Tampa Bay & Cleveland can't afford him. Arizona can be a wild card in there, but I doubt they'd provide an overwhelming offer. St. Louis can try, but they can't outbid the Mets. Texas may be the wild card in there if they're not satisfied with CJ Wilson. All of the options in Fuentes, Hoffman, Wood and plenty of pitchers via trade will put the icing on the cake too. Minaya's trying to be smart here pretending like Fuentes is the guy he want to pull down his value. Fuentes' demand will be higher though because some of the other teams like Arizona and Milwaukee may be able to afford him. So the Cardinals, Rangers & Diamondbacks won't offer 5 years. Why would the Mets? That's probably why they wouldn't. Would those teams even offer 4 years/60 million? Probably not. I think the Mets can get K-Rod on a 4 year/52 million deal with a 13 million team option or 4 million buyout for a 5th year. Unless he holds out and signs a one year deal in anticipation that more big market teams will need a closer.... Read More »
